I took it to a couple other shops. The alignment problem with worn tires was true, but it turns out the sound was from riding on that wire, and not the wheel bearing, which another shop explained how it wears, but can make noise without risk of falling due to oil starting to dry.
Great prices but did not have the spline socket to get the tire off my car
Went to find out what was wrong, making my car make noise at certain speeds. They took it for a ride around the block, and insisted it was the wheel bearing.
When I asked how they knew, he said he's been doing it over thirty years, and knows the sound; that if he knew it was that bad, he'd not have driven it, because it could fall off at any moment. He also informed me I was riding on wire, due to bad alignment.
They did an awesome job! They weren't even open yet and they still fixed my flat tire.
